Hide or Disable Custom Field

Is it possible to hide or disable a custom field for a sub-task based on it's parent type?

I'm willing to do this any way possible. I planned on using scriptrunner, but have been unable to find any useful documentation. 

I'm using Jira 7.9.2, and also have Scriptrunner 5.3.26

I never tried that before but it should work using the Behaviours part of Script Runner.

With that, you can hide fields on screens.

Agreed. Script Runner Behaviours is the right tool for the job.
