How can I create an epic when the new epic is required to be linked to an epic?

Hi Nic.

You have a problem (probably) with the Field Configurations, could you check which Field Configuration Scheme is using the Issue log project and then check if the Field Configuration associated with the Epic has the epic link field mandatory?

I did check the Field Configurations and yes, this field is mandatory.  However, I cannot make it optional.  Can you help me with this?
