I am setting up a new workflow for defect tracking and I would like to customize the status view screen, but I cannot seem to find any UI controls that allow me to change the way the screen looks. I am not referring to the transition screen, I have successfully setup the transitions layouts, but I don't want to over-burden my users with fields like "Labels", "Priority" or "Resolution". I would also like to customize the "Details" section to show information I deem most important. Is there a way to change this that I am not finding?
In actuality, I would love to be able to customize the entire view screen. We are moving from Serena (which is very dynamic in this regard) to JIRA and I want my users to see as much familiarity as possible. Is it possible to change what the screen below shows within the box? How about the "People" section, can that be altered as well?
Thanks,
Jason

You can only show/hide fields using configurations. If you want to change the entire layout, you will have to modify a bundled plugin. See http://www.j-tricks.com/tutorials/modifying-atlassian-bundled-plugins for more details.
Having said that, it is best to not modify the bundled plugin just to make it look like another tool (Serena in this case). While I understand the rationale behind doing that, future upgrades will be harder and harder.
Thank you for your response Jobin! I completely understand what you are saying with the upgrade issue. I did not consider this. You mentioned showing and hiding fields. I understand how to do this for the transitions, but if I hide a system field in the field configuration section, will it be hidden on the view screen, or is that only for transitions? Is there somewhere where the view screen fields can be hidden that I am just not finding? Thanks, Jason

If you hide it in field configurations, it will be hidden even from the "view issue" page.

Thanks so much for your help Jobin, I really appreciate it. Jason
