How do I change the status of an asset?

In the assets object schema configuration, there is a section for statuses. How do I actually apply these statuses to the assets?

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

That list is just the available statuses that you can assign to an attribute. In order to set the status on an object you need to have an attribute of the type status and then you select the values that are available for that attribute.
