How do I make a custom field show up in an issue?

Paul Baranowski September 17, 2013

I've added a custom field, and it's Issue Type is "global" and I've set it to appear on all screens. Yet it still does not show up on the issue itself, in the detailed/default issue view. What can I do to make it appear?

It has to:

  • Be on the screens (which you've said you've done)
  • Be valid on the field configuration for the project (enabled by default, but check!)
  • Have the right context (which you've also said you've done - global)
  • Have data, if you're looking at the issue view screen, as Jira hides fields that are empty

Is it one of those?

Thanks for the answer! The cause was the last one - since the field was empty, it didnt show up. I didnt realize that empty fields are not shown. This is kind of annoying that you cant see what fields need to be filled in, and doesnt give you the ability to do a quick edit of the field. Is there any way to make empty fields show up all the time?
