How do I populate a custom field from a database on JIRA Cloud? (EasyBI)

I have in JIRA Software Cloud a free text field which models an internal project reference number #0001, #0002... #10,000 - which we are entering as free text currently.

I am using EasyBI and I can not use this custom field as a dimension since this is free text.  Unfortunately in order to "pivot" a table on a field I have to use a custom field (as a select list) in order to allow EasyBI to allow me to do this.

I do not wish to enter over 10,000 reference numbers by hand (even a few at a time) in to the custom field lookup - so I am now looking at populating a custom field (as a select list) ideally from a database (which contains these reference numbers).

How do I populate a custom field from an external data source - or even auto generate these?

In Atlassian Cloud your options are to use CSV Import or to import the values over the REST API.
