How to Convert custom text field to numeric field

I have a project with about 60 issues. My users have decided that they would want to convert the text field to numeric field. Those text fields[Direct IT cost] have numeric values[like 12345, 123467].

I did check this documentation , https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/changing-custom-field-types-in-jira-158357.html, could you find a way to convert the text field to numeric field.

First of all, there is no way to change the custom field type in Jira so the workaround is just create a new numeric field and import the data of existing field to newly created numeric field and i have tried this workaround earlier and its working fine.
