Hi Jeff,
Currently, it's not possible to search or "Quick search" using JQL. I've searched for add-ons and feature request related to it, but there is nothing that can help us.
I found a feature request that was suggesting only the change of the JQL that the quick search automatically generates when we search for something and it was closed as "won't do": - https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRASERVER-24576
