Need to migrate project from JIRA v6.4.12 to JIRA 7.12.3

SUHAS BHUJBAL February 14, 2019

Hello,

I have many projects on IRA v6.4.12. out of which one project needs to move to new server which is having JIRA 7.12.3

So how to proceed with this? What are the best ways available?

Even if possible I would like to transfer the entire history of the versions from the archive.

Can someone help me out here?

Thanks in advance

BR,

Suhas B.

Hi Suhas,

I just had the same requirement as I needed to migrate projects from 6.4.7 to 7.12.3 on another instance. I have investigated many solutions and I think this one is the best, all the data is imported cleanly. Assuming you are using MySQL database.

  1. Install Jira 6.4.12 locally. You will need to install MySQL locally as well. I guess you should be able to do it with other DBMS as well. You can find the installer here https://fr.atlassian.com/software/jira/download-archives.
  2. Export your source Jira and restore it on your local instance. When it is done do a re-index.
  3. Upgrade local instance into 7.0 (you cannot uprade to 7.12.3 directly) by using the installer and the same folders you used for 6.4.12.
  4. Upgrade to 7.12.3 locally the same way.
  5. Install "Project Configurator" on your local instance and your target instance. Then "Export selected projects" on local instance, which will procude an archive. Use this file to "Import complete project" on target instance. You will probably need to fix some errors here, but they are clear so you should be able to figure what to do.

And you're done !

If you need more details about any of these steps feel free to ask.
