Notifications button is timing out/not working

Hi,

Getting below error when pressing the notifications button (between the search box and the help button).

Error in browser: "The call to the jira server did not complete within the timeout period. We are unsure of the result of this operation."

Cannot find anything related in the logs either, and no entries are added to the logs during the period before or after clicking the button.

The error only arrives when pressing said button. It is a pretty recent and cleanly installed instance of Jira. Similar button in Confluence works, but they seem to be programatically very different.

I have tried what is suggested in this kb, but it doesn't work and I don't think it is related.

Does anyone know what is causing this and how this feature works? Is it executing a java script (in which case I may need to investigate if it is a GPO which is blocking this feature)? Is it a plugin/add-on/module which I may find under add-ons (so I can try to disable and reenable it)?
