Automation works on board but not when changing status

I created an automation rule to change the assignee to the user initiating an action.  THe action is when the issue transitions from one status to another.  The automation works great when i drag the issue from one column to the next in a board.  However, when i edit the issue and change the status, the assignee is not changed to me.  Why does the automation work when using the board, but not when editing the issue and changing the status?

what does the audit log tell you in each case? By the was an alternative to Automation for this is a Post function on the transition in the workflow.

Assign to Current User - Assigns the issue to the current user if the current user has the 'Assignable User' permission.

This rule worked just fine for me for both the cases - when moving across the board or doing it by myself:

Hi David,

Any chance you could take a screenshot of the automation and how you have the board configured. The workflow itself maybe helpful.

The only thing I can think of is that you have multiple transition methods from one status to another and the automation doesn't cover them all. The images would help though.
