Close active sprint and move issues to new sprint

When I want to close the active sprint, I do not get the option to choose which sprint the unfinished issues will be moved to, only to the backlog. (I only have the opportunity to use an active sprint at a time - no parallel active sprints.)

What am I doing wrong?

Are you sure you have not created the next sprint yet? You should be able to do that by default.

(I only have the opportunity to use an active sprint at a time - no parallel active sprints.)

This is a function that a Jira admin might have to check on whether it is turned on or not.
