I have a custom text field that I'd like users to be able to format when adding text (i.e. the formatting bar opens when the field is clicked enabling the user to bold, highlight and number text etc).
I read that this could be done by changing the renderer to 'Wiki rendering in issue field configuration. I made this change but the field still appears as plain text without the formatting bar - where I did I go wrong?
Thanks for looking into this @Trudy Claspill - I've attached an image of the config and how the field appears on an issue
Thanks @Trudy Claspill - I think I may have a standard 'Text Field (multiline)'. Can this be changed to a 'Free text field' on an existing field?

Hello @Adam Taylor
Did you create a Paragraph field or a Short Text field?
Only the Paragraph field type supports Wiki Rendering. The Short Text field is plain text only.

Custom field Types cannot be changed after they have been created. You would have to make a new custom field and move the data from the original field to the new field.
I just checked in my Cloud system again and found that when I selected the Paragraph (supports rich text) type field what shows in the Type column for that in the Custom Fields screen is actually "Text Field (multi-line)". And when a Short text (plain text only) field type is selected then what shows in the Type column is "Text Field (single line)".
So if your field is "Text Field (multi-line)" then you already have the correct field type for using Wiki Rendering.
Can you show us an example of the field appearing as plain text without the formatting bar?

Hi @Trudy Claspill thanks for looking into this - I've attached a screenshot of the config and how the field appears to a user.

Are you sure that you changed the Renderer in the Field Configuration that applies to that type of issue in that project (according to the Field Configuration Scheme associated to the project)?
On what type of screen are you viewing that field? Is it the Create Issue dialog? The Issue Details screen? A screen associated with a workflow transition?
It is a long shot, but did you confirm that the modules for the Wiki Renderer macro are enabled. See the last section on this page:
