How to determine "group" dependencies in Jira?

We have an unnecessary number of groups in our instance and we want to cull the herd. However, we want to be sure we're not cutting a group that's used for a workflow condition, permission scheme, notification scheme, custom field plugin, etc.

Is there a thorough and reliable way to check if the group is being referenced for one of these purposes? (A comprehensive SQL statement for example?)
