How to post a comment via script

Zak S October 6, 2022

Hi everyone,

I'd like to understand how to update a comment via an automated script.  We have reports that run and when completed, it would be very helpful to send a link in the comments section of a Jira.

If there is an example or tutorial or any helpful guidance I'd be very grateful.

thanks!

Zak

hello @Zak S ,

It really depends on how/where you run your report.

Without knowing your context, I can point you to :

  1. scriptrunner: https://library.adaptavist.com/entity/add-comment-to-an-issue-in-a-post-function
  2. jira rest api : https://developer.atlassian.com/server/jira/platform/jira-rest-api-example-add-comment-8946422/
  3. Automation for jira. An example here. you can change the trigger and delete the edit security level action

With more context on your report generation, we might be able to give a better answer.

Hi Robert

thank you for the answer and the options.

I'm running a script from my shell, it carries out a process and when its done I'd want to post a comment with a link to the output of the script.

I guess the rest api is my best way here.
