We would like all comments to be restricted. Since JIRA Cloud does not provide an option to set visibility in the default configuration, we are looking for alternatives. Is this possible using the Automation for JIRA add-on and if yes, can someone provide an example?
Hey Lorraine,
If you are looking to change the default configuration of the comment visibility with Automation for Jira, this isn't possible.
It could only change this visibility after the fact. By this I mean, a user might get a notification - before the comment visibility is hidden.
You can set the comment visibility on the 'comment on issue' action as per screenshot below but I don't think this is what you are looking to do.
Hope that helps!
John
Thanks @John McKiernan1 ! Yes it does help. No, it isn't really exactly what we are looking for. Are you meaning that if someone is a "watcher" on an issue, they get the email notification with the new comment (since this is initiated first) and then the rule would kick in? That would be the reverse order of what we would want but good to know regardless.

Hey Lorraine,
Glad it helps somewhat!
Yes, that's more or less right. Automation for Jira can't edit a comment nor can it, by default, restrict who views the comment. Watchers or reporters would get the notification at the same time as the comment is made.
Cheers,
John
