I would like to add 'Linked Issues' field in the Request's details view in the portal so that customers can also see the linked related tickets. I have read some thread but suggested apps are not free. Any possible workaround?

Caution: Free apps usually have no or limited support and may not be supported in future Jira releases. Building you process on a free app may lead to problems in the future.
after being free for almost two years, Awesome Custom Fields for Jira transitioned to a paid app. Our Extension for JSM remains free. For your use-case, the issue picker field we have would work. Maybe you can try it out and see how it works for you.
