JCMA

Hi all,

I am wanting to use JCMA to migrate some projects from Jira DC to Jira Cloud.

Our Jira DC version is v9.11.2

I understand this needs to be installed on Jira DC, the issue we have is that this server does not have external internet access.

I am wondering

a. Has anyone else had this issue

b. Is there somewhere I can download this as a separate file and then install on our Jira DC

Thank you for your help with this one.

Hello @Joshua Stokes

You can download the installer from the Versions page of the Atlassian Marketplace listing for the app.

https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1222010/jira-cloud-migration-assistant/version-history

Be advised, though, that your system will need connectivity to the Internet to execute the migration.

Make sure that you review all the migration materials  and factor in time to do test migrations.

Perfect, thank you @Trudy Claspill

This is very helpful!!

Last question, what is the difference between the DC and Server downloads?

Download the one that matches your product license.

If you are running with a Jira Server license, download the one for Server. If you are running with a Data Center license, download the one for Data Center.

You can view your license type from the System administration area, under Applications / Versions & Licenses.

Hi @Joshua Stokes

Using JCMA (Jira Cloud Migration Assistant) for migrating projects from Jira Data Center (DC) to Jira Cloud can be challenging without external internet access on your Jira DC server. To answer your questions:

a. Has anyone else had this issue?

Yes, this is a common issue, especially in environments with strict network security and no internet access for certain servers. JCMA requires internet access to interact with Jira Cloud APIs, so it can’t run fully without it.

b. Is there somewhere I can download this as a separate file and then install on Jira DC?

As stated in the above answers, JCMA needs to be installed on your Jira DC instance via the Atlassian Marketplace, which requires internet access. There isn’t an option to download the JCMA installer as a separate file to bypass the need for external connectivity.

In your scenario, you may want to explore OpsHub Migration Manager (OMM), an Atlassian Partner as it can help you with zero-downtime, full-fidelity migration between Jira Data Center and Jira Cloud. Whether you need to migrate data in stages or perform a complete migration, OMM ensures that historical data, attachments, comments, and field mappings are preserved without any data loss.

You can refer to our Jira DC to Cloud migration listing on Atlassian marketplace.

Hope it helps! :)
