JIRA notification From is a person not on our project.

I just received a notification from JIRA for a project I'm associated with. The issue is a person on our team performed the work but the email notification indicates that it was done by a person not assigned to our project. I verified that emails were correct, the incorrect sender was not assigned anywhere on the project by mistake, and that he did not get an email from that project.

I'm really confused by this and was wondering if anyone had any ideas to why this would happen.

Good thought, I checked that and he didn't. I might put in a request with altlassian.

Users may or may not have permission to view, create, edit, issues etc within a particular project, but they do not get "assigned" to a project.  Check the history of the issue. Your user may have updated the wrong issue.
