Need history search on the fields like labels

vsajjan August 6, 2020

My labels on jira has been changed/updated based on releases.

To do the release retrospection I would need to find all jiras which were updated with specific label which is not the present label

Hi Vikranth,

I see that you are using Jira Cloud and want to be able to search for issues that once had a particular label. This is not currently possible to do within Jira Cloud.  While the JQL WAS operator can be used on some system fields, this is limited to the Assignee, Fix Version, Priority, Reporter, Resolution, and Status fields.  The labels field does not support this historical searching.

We have a feature request that seeks to extend this ability to that field over in JRACLOUD-44708.  I see that you also found the related ticket of JRACLOUD-36694.

It is possible to see the history of an individual issue in order to see if perhaps this field had a specific value, but this is not something that you can easily search upon in JQL, nor is this something you can query via the REST API.  Sorry that I do not have a clear solution to the request here.

Perhaps in the future you could use the fixVersion field as a means to store this kind of data.  I realize that this isn't an ideal solution, but that field does have historical searching as an option.  The drawback here is that only a project admin could create the versions first, whereas in labels, any user can create them.

I hope this helps.
