Hi,
I have a request from one of our clients to disable email all email notifications for Jira (in this case JSM) users. They would like only to receive notifications via the in-app notification bell icon.
Now, I know that each user can set their preferences and disable email notifications via the Personal settings page, but I was wondering if I could turn those email notifications off via the project itself - e.g. by modifying the notification scheme.
I have not found any official article which states if notifications in the Jira navigation bar (a.k.a. 'bell icon') are connected to the notification scheme or not.
From what I have tested so far - they are, but could someone confirm this or maybe even link an official support reference if there is any?
Hi Tomislav,
Email notification on the Jira Administration console are independent of the Jira Notification on the Mobile app, so there should be no problem deactivating the email notification as long as each user setup correctly the Jira app on their phones.
Cheers,
Nico.
Hi Nico,
Thanks for the answer.
When I mentioned in app notifications, I was thinking about desktop notifications (on that little bell icon in the navigation bar) when using Atlassian products in the web browser.
I'm aware that there are different settings for the actual mobile app, but that's not something I currently need.
Cheers,
Tomislav

Hi Tomislav,
I understood incorrectly then. For what you are asking about limiting the email notifications and keeping the Bell Notifications this feature is not implemented and the work around I can think of is to create a Email filter to remove the noise generated by the emails.
Hopes this helps, cheers.
Nico.

Okay, cool.
So, just to confirm - notifications & events in the notification scheme are connected to Bell Notifications?

Yes, they are connected, I read on other comments that you can disable the notification scheme (setting it to none) and that will stop sending emails and allow just the bell notifications to work, but I haven't tested that yet.
Cheers,
Nico.
