Automation Clone Issue Fail

Özge Özgenç

I have 3 team-managed projects: Design Project, Dev Project, and Test Project. When an issue is done in the design project, the issue needs to be cloned into dev project. Also, when an issue is done in the dev project, the issue needs to be cloned into test project. I have the automation but it fails. I will add the screenshots. I am open to any suggestions, thanks.

Hi @Özge Özgenç

I guess the first question is why are you linking the issues AND trying to make one the parent of another? I would think the linking would be sufficient, plus the Parent process is reserved for Hierarchies used by Advanced Roadmaps and task/sub-task relationships.

Hi @John Funk
I am linking the issues because they are related to each other. I need to link them as "relates to", so my team can easily find the related task. I couldn't understand how I am making one the parent of another. I didn't want to create them as parents, just as tasks.

You don't need to do anything with the Parent feature - just link them - that's good enough.

Are you talking about additional field input?

Correct - you don't need that.

Yes, I research the fail and I found the additional field input as a solution, so I tried it but it didn't work. When I delete that, the fail is not changing.

I think the problem is with the Clone and not the linking. It sounds like you are trying to clone an issue in project ABC that has a parent value of ABC-123 for example. But you are cloning the issue into project DEF. It is trying to create the clone and add ABC-123 as the parent of the issue that should get created in project DEF. But that is not allowed. You have to have a different parent for the cloned issue - one that is in project DEF.

I updated it as you said. It failed again with a different type of error.

What project are you trying to create the Clone in?
