Automation to move service management issue when linked issue is transitioned to Done

Hello, I am struggling trying to set up an automation and hope someone can help.

What I am trying to achieve:

  1. If a service management issue requires a fix in one of our products, we create/link an issue in one of the separate Jira projects
  2. When the linked issue gets transitioned to Done in the other project we want to automatically transition the 'parent' service management issue to a different column so it's a visual queue for the support guys to get back to the client

I found some posts from 2020 but not sure if they are still relevant or things have improved since then!

Hi @Chris Morphew ,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community.

In an automation rule you can use a branch. In the sector you choose 'linked issue'.
See screenshot for an example.

Thanks Marco, sorry only just getting back to this.

I found the branch setting that detects a change in a linked issue, but I must be being dense, what do I select for the main initial trigger? Feels like a kind on inception as the trigger is the fact that the linked issue has transitioned, i.e. nothing changes on the 'parent' task?!

Hi @Chris Morphew ,

You set the trigger on the transition of the issue in one of the separate Jira projects.

And in the branche you set up the transition from the 'parent' service management issue.

See screenshot for an example.
