Did you mean:

Change Assigner.

SLEETER, MICHAEL July 30, 2020

How do you change the person doing the assigning? In our case, that person is no longer with our company.

Hello @SLEETER, MICHAEL

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

I'm not sure if I completely understood your request, but it seems you are looking for a way to remove the default assignee configured of your Projects. Is that correct?

Basically, once you remove the user from your Jira site the default assignee field should be cleared. To add a new user as the default assignee, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to your Project > Project settings > Details
  2. Click in the drop-down to select a new default assignee and then click on "Save details":

Somehow I'm not explaining this clear.  I want to change the person doing the assigning, the assignER, not the assignee.  thanks

Hello @SLEETER, MICHAEL

Thank you for clarifying your request, sorry for my misunderstanding.

Actually, there is no "default assigner" in Jira. All the users with the Assign Issues permission can assign issues to other users in a Jira project, as long as the users selected in the assignee field have the assignable user permission.

Supposing you are using a Classic project in Jira, you can follow the steps below to add or remove who can assign issues in a project:

  1. Navigate to the project > Project Settings > Permissions
  2. Check in the assign permissions who are the users/groups/roles that can assign issues, properly changing it as you need.
  3. For more details, you can check the documentation below:
    Managing project permissions

If you are using a Next-gen Project in Jira, I'm afraid this project does not have specific permissions for the "assign" action. This project type provides a simpler option to use Jira, which does not include the same granular level to manage permissions as classic does.

For more details, you can check the documentation below:

Next-gen permissions
