Custom field "Sprint" is locked and I can't change it

Ozgur Gemici November 4, 2024

I'm trying to figure how I can edit the "Sprint" field. It only happens with sub-tasks and it inherits the sprint from the user story. I checked the customer field settings under the project and the "Sprint" seems to be locked with the following note:

This configuration item is locked by Jira or one of its plugins. You are not allowed to alter its configuration2024-11-04 15 29 35.jpg2024-11-04 15 34 14.jpg

Hi @Ozgur Gemici

the thing is, that sub-tasks are such a small entity used to breakdown work in a Task or Story. If a Task is to big to be finished in one Sprint I would recommend to split it into several entities.

The problem is the issue hierarchy. How do your tech teams create tasks? Under an epic or user story?

Hi @Ozgur Gemici , welcome to the Community.

indeed that field is locked and cannot be edited. What exactly are you trying to achieve? Sub-tasks are for sure part of a story. When a story is committed to a sprint all sub-tasks are in effect committed to the sprint as well.

@Jack Brickey Tech team needs to create tasks for their work but we can only add sub-tasks as a child issue under user stories, not tasks. Tasks are same level as user stories in the hierarchy and we can't have tasks under the user story.

@Jack Brickey Stories might take longer than one sprint. Why do they have to be completed in 1 sprint I don't understand.
