One of my client have Confluence v5.9 and they are planning to start using JIRA (7.6 Enterprise).
Does both work together?
Yes, they will work together.
Thanks Nic

All version of jira, will work with all version of confluence? or are there exceptions or rules?

No - the further apart the release dates, the more likely that they will have differences in expected functionality. If, for example, you have a really old Jira that has an earlier version of the REST interface, then a more recent Confluence will be trying to make REST calls that are unsupported when you use the Jira macro.
It's impossible, and probably pointless to try to list all the combinations (there are hundreds of versions). The simple thing to do is look at what you have and test that. Ideally, upgrade one or both systems to versions that were released around the same time.
