How can I add a custom field Progress Based on Status?

David_Schroepfer August 16, 2019

I was not able to add a Progress custom field based on Status to use it on the Filter results, because when I configured the Filter results Dashboard - Gadget I could not see the Status progress of the subtasks (Child issues) that is displayed on the task parent. I need to see this progress bar below on this report. can someone help me please. The Jira version that I'm using is Starter license for Kanban:

Jira Service Desk Application 3.3.0-OD
Copyright © 2002 - 2018 Atlassian Corporation Pty Ltd.

JIRA Agile
Copyright © 2002 - 2013 Atlassian Corporation Pty Ltd

Board Structrure

Parent issue : A
Child issues: B -> In progress, C -> Done
Progress bar -> 50% (That is the progress column that I need to see on the filter results dashboad)

Thanks!

Hi David,

Just to confirm that we are on the same page, you want to have a percentage of conclusion for the issues, based on the progress of the subtasks, to be shown in the dashboard using a gadget. If I got it right, the feature you are asking for has already been requested in the past, but unfortunately, it doesn't get enough traction. One workaround you can try is using the "Issue Statistics" gadget.

  • Navigate to your issue navigator > Create a filter to return the parent issue you want to measure its progress
  • Go to Dashboards, Add Gadget;
  • Search for "Issue Statistics" and click Add Gadget;
  • Select the filter you created, set Statisct Type to "Status" and Show Resolved Issue Statistics to "Yes" (as you can see the image below).

By doing so you can have the percentage of a single issue on the gadget, but if you need to track more issues you are going to have to create and configure one gadget for each issue.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions regarding this.

Hello Fabricio,

Thanks for your support, you are right and there are no conclusion for the issues based on the progress of the subtasks and we are on the same page, however I was not able to apply the workaround you suggested me because all status of child issues are not being displayed, bellow are the steps and I will really appreciate your thoughts if I missing something else on this gadget.

1. Create a filter to return the parent filter

2. Go to Dashboards, Add Gadget.

3. Search for "Issue Statistics" and click Add Gadget;

4. Select the filter you created, set Statisct Type to "Status" and Show Resolved Issue Statistics to "Yes" (as you can see the image below).

Hello David,

Please click on "switch to JQL" in the filter screen and type the following: parent = 'RD470-26'

This filter should return all the sub-task issues of your parent in the gadget.

Hi Fabricio & David

What if I want a Total Percentage against a Category or Parent Issue.

e.g. in the example above, I have a Percentage of Sub Tasks i.e. Resolved = 33%, Analysis = 33% & In Progress = 33%.

I want Parent Issue = 99%

I have created a filter with following query

project = WCC AND "Category[Select List (cascading)]" in cascadeOption(10627) ORDER BY created DESC

Then Added in Dashboard using your workaround, but Dashboard is showing 100% (Wrong) instead of 91% (Right)

Regards

Shahzad
