Hi all,

I recently got Site Admin to set up new stuff in Jira.

I currently getting email notification for every slight change in Jira in all projects.

I'd like to learn how can I get notified only if I'm a 'watcher', I commented on an issue, I'm assigned to an issue and that's it.

Thanks!

I tend to think there should be something in the notification scheme(s) of your project(s). Please, check it.

Hi @Grigory Salnikov

I went over the notification scheme. It's a Jira default scheme. There's nothing there that specifically set up to email me.

I found that I'm the watcher of every issue created in jira.

Is there a way to find what is the settings that automatically adds me as a watcher to issues?

Hi Gil,

Under System Settings (must be a systems administrator), go to Default user preferences then change the Autowatch own issues to "No". Individual users can still change that under their own preferences but by default they won't get all of the notifications.

Then you can handle more granular notifications with the scheme as suggested elsewhere here.

Hope that helps!

John

@John Funk

Ok, I'm confused. Doesn't "Autowatch own issues" means for the issues I raised?

If yes, then that makes sense - I'd like to watch the issues I raised.

I'm getting email notifications on issues I haven't raised or had no interaction with, but somehow I'm still added as a watcher.

Could this be a bug?

Or the naming "Autowatch own issues" is misleading?

The name is misleading in my experience. Before I turned it off system-wide, anytime a user was associated with the issue in some way - as assignee, reporter, etc., they were automatically added as a Watcher and then got tons of emails. But, like you, it also seemed that I got attached as a Watcher for no apparent reason.

After I turned it off, that no longer happened (them being automatically added as a Watcher). Lots of happy campers (including ME) after that.  :-)

So I left the Notification Scheme where basically a Watcher gets ALL notifications for anything that happens to the issue. Then I modified the same scheme so that only the Reporter gets certain notifications - like when the issue is deleted or resolved (i.e. Done).

Otherwise, you must add yourself as a Watcher to get the full stuff. The other option is that you can add a dashboard gadget for Activity Stream and filter by Project. That way you just go check it whenever you want and no emails.

You should check the 'Notification Scheme': https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiracloud/creating-a-notification-scheme-776636401.html

You can define for each event which roles/users/groups/custom fields should get notifications.

Also, it could be that you are a part of certain group that is added as a watcher in every issue. Probably via the post functions.
