Is it possible to change the names of the steps in a project?

As a default my projects have the steps of:

Backlog

Selected for Development

In Progress 

Done

Can I ask if these names can be changed?

Do you mean that you can see these names in a board? Is it a Jira Software project? Could make a screenshot?

If it is on a board, you can go to the board configuration and change these steps in the columns menu.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, it is in a board. We have software projects and business projects and it shows in both. Please see a screen shot.

It is not a huge issue if I cannot change them, we just have some staff who are not informed on JIRA/Project management terminology and they will get confused with backlog etc.

For Software, board columns are defined by the config for the board, you can get there by clicking the "configure board" option near the top right of the board (as long as the creator/owner has given you the right to do so)

For Business projects, the board follows the workflow you have defined for the project.  So to change the columns, edit the workflow.
