Not able to choose epic in Jira forms

jules24 June 5, 2024

Hello!

For creating new epics, we have set up a jira issue forms template. I want the user to select a a preselected Saga as parent (it can either be preselected by me or the user can select it manually - both options are fine if that helps).

I tried the custom field "parent link" to make it visible, however it does not allow me to select the according parent that I want the user to choose from in the forms. When I look at the forms, it just shows me an empty search field and is unable to find any epic/saga.

My company has provided a help guide from years ago, there it says to use the epic link custom field. However, I do not have the epic link custom field to choose from the list.

Maybe someone has a similar issue and found a solution?

Thank you!

Hi Jules,

The Epic Link field has been replaced with the Parent field in Jira. The user would need to have Browse Project permissions on the projects that the Epics have been created it. But you will not be able to limit the list of Epics in a single project.

Hi John,

thanks for reaching out!

Good to know that Epic Link got replaced!:) My thought was to write above the field: Please copy and paste *Saga number*. However, with the Parent Link custom field, it does not find the Saga, neither if I write the number, the link or just the name. Is it possible that something in the settings is off, so that it does not recognize Sagas as a parent link?

I tried it for myself and I should have all the permissions since I created the saga..

If you just press the create button, do you see values in the parent field by doing that?

Hello, no there is no value in the parent field

I thought about adding a hidden label as a temporary fix which I will check from time to time to transfer it manually. However an automatic parent link would be awesome :D

Can you share the Issue Type Scheme for the project?

jules24 June 6, 2024

We have a standardized one, I checked:

- Hierarchy Level 1: Legend

- Hierarchy Level 2: Saga

- Hierarchy Level 3: Epic

- Hierarchy Level 4: User Story, Defect, task

Hope that helps!:)

This is the Hierarchy - thanks for sending that. But it is is not the Issue Type Scheme. Can you share that please.

Its named ATC Standard Development + Test Issue Type Scheme :) I hope that's what you meant!

No, I want to see the actual scheme and the values in it.

You mean when I click on project settings and then issue types?

Project Settings > Summary > Issue Type Scheme

Hello John! Sorry for the late response! I reached our company support and maybe if someone else looks for the answer: For me it worked once I added "Epic" as a name in the editor below the parent menu. Pretty interesting workaround but im just glad it works:) Have a nice day John and all the best!

If it helps, its currently an empty dropdown that says "No options".

I can edit it, but it does not show any parent
