Dear All,

Got some odd behavior with statuses in the Done column on our team's Kanban board. Initially we only had one status in that column of 'Resolved' however we had need to add a new status called 'Deployed' to that column. In the board config for the column, 'Deployed' is above 'Resolved' but it's not on the board itself. Any idea why that might be? I tried unmapping both statuses and adding back but got same behavior. Might also be worth noting that 'Resolved' has a transition screen if that makes any difference. Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Best, Michael J

@Michael Johnson  Hiii

If i got your question right, you want to have "Deployed" status in Done column and you can't do this. If it is right, maybe you change your workflow. I mean you must add "Deployed" status in your workflow. But if you can't transit to the "Deployed" status in Done column maybe again return to your workflow that there is not appropriate transition.

Hi Michael - How Jira uses ranking for columns on a board has always been very complicated and hard to understand for me. I do not think that it orders items initially based on the status it is in if there are multiple statuses in the same column.

My experience is that it is sometimes (often) tied to when the card first appeared on the board. So a card coming into the board prior to another card will move above that card whenever the second one is moved into the same column - even if different statuses.

I might be completely wrong - but basically, I would say that you cannot assume they will be ranked in the column based solely on the status.

My next question would be, why do you need them in a certain order in the Done column? What does that do for you?

Hi John,

The 'added to column timing' occurred to me as well so I tried removing both statuses and adding them back in the preferred order but Resolved was still above Deployed. It's nothing major but logically, in our workflow, Deployed comes before Resolved so I'd prefer to see Deployed above Resolved.

Also, sorry for the very late reply, not sure why I'm not getting notifications on this thread.

@Ashkan Malekly , no that's not correct. I have two statuses in the Done column, Deployed and Resolved. On the board config, I have Deployed above Resolved but on the board itself, Resolved appears above Deployed. Hope that clarifies a bit.

Ahaa you see issues with "Deployed" status under "Resolved" in your board? it may because of your swimlanes. in the config of your board check the swimlanes. For example because of priority. The issue with "Resolved" status has "High" priority and the issue with "Deployed" status has "Low" priority and because of this show, show the Resolved issue above the Deployed one.
