Trying to use project.lead field in automation for 'field chnaged value' trigger

Is there a way to use the smart field of issue.project.lead as the field name to trigger an automation rule on? I can't pick it from the field list, can't use the usual {{}} format for hand entering it and I tried using regex to match the string issue.project.lead but it isn't triggering when I change the lead on the project. I couldn't find any examples of smart fields being used in the 'when field changes value' trigger, so I'm not sure if it's even possible.

My goal is to be able to send an email when the project lead does change.

I do not believe that is possible as there are no project-related triggers for Jira Server, automation rules: https://confluence.atlassian.com/automation/jira-automation-triggers-993924804.html
