Will an automation rule using 'When Value Changes' be triggered by another automation edit field action or does the issue update have to come from a user?
I'm trying to create automation rules that will take field values entered/updated on an Epic and copy those values to the epics child issues and the child issue sub-tasks. I've been able to automate the copy of the values to the child issues but since the trigger issue is the epic, I haven't been able to get the sub-tasks updated. I was hoping that a rule looking for value changes in the child issues would recognize the value change by the first automation rule to copy the value from the epic to the child and trigger to copy the value from the child to it's sub-tasks. Is that possible?
It can be. When you set up your rule, you won't initially see a way to configure it. After you've created your rule, go back to the list of rules and click back into the one you just made.
About halfway down the page you'll see a checkbox for "Allow rule trigger". Check that box and then other automation rules can trigger this one.
@Kian Stack Mumo Systems Thank you! New to automation rules and I hadn't noticed what was on the page when I reopened the rule since I was focusing on the Rule Details. Thanks for pointing this out!
