classic board stopped showing newly created backlog items

I have 3 next gen projects feeding in to a classic board.  Everything was showing in the backlog on the classic board without issue for the last 3 months.

Last week when i was out a team member added columns to the board which have now been removed but since they were added, new work items are no longer appearing on the board.  The query for the board returns everything when I run the query in the issues and filters section so it appears to be a rendering thing.  There are no filters on the board.

Any suggestions on why this could be happening?

--UPDATE:  With the columns previously added now removed, i can clone all the tickets not appearing back in to the same project they are created in then they appear

Hi @Lisa McNab ,

I have a few possible answers.

1.  Was the backlog turned off on the next gen projects?

2.  Are there any rules on the next gen projects that edit a field which might affect your classic project query?

To be clear, do you want the issues to appear in the backlog or on the board in the classic project?  In the first paragraph you mention backlog and second you say board.  Is the backlog status part of the board?  If that's the case maybe the status isn't mapped to a column thus your issues aren't appearing on the board.

Let me know if this helps!

Hi,

Thanks for youor quick response.

1. Backlog appears on the next gen projects and this is the only place the mystery work items are appearing.

2.  The team create and manage everything through the 'Teams' classic board page rather than on the next gen project.

I want the work items to appear on the classic board along with all the other work items created prior to last week.  the only status columns we have on the projects are the default to do, in progress, blocked and done.

Just to confirm, are the statuses mapped to the columns on your target (classic) board?

You mentioned your colleague adding columns so I think something might have gotten messed up in that change.

Let me know!

yes all states are mapped.

After another morning of investigation, it looks like while the work items are linked to the epics they aren't appearing.  If I remove the work items from the epics they appear in the backlog again.
