why is my component field not working

I have created components in my project but when I create a task I cannot select a component for the task. It is uneditable

Have you added the component field to the Create and Edit screens in the project's "issue type screen scheme"?

Yes 

I turned it off  updated and then back on and updated and now it works.

The field is there but uneditiable... see above I turned it off then back on

now it works
