Two Descriptions Showing for Custom Field

We are using a custom labels field in JIRA 4.4 and recently started adding descriptions to them. Now we see two descriptions, the deafult and our new custom one. We have checked both the custom field and the scheme that the custom fields are in. Our new text is in both. Any idea why we are still seing the default text?
