Why I cannot drag and drop the item from one column to another or rearrange the sequence in the same

When I try to drag the item in one column (To Do) above or below the existing item, it does not work. JIRA board goes into Edit mode. The only way out of that is to Refresh. Even after refresh, I do not see the item in a new place.

Right-click, top or bottom of swimlane also does not work.

I am using Chrome. And this has suddenly stopped working.

But currently you cannot transition an issue vertically in the same column, the workaround is to select the desired issue then use the period key "." to open up up the options menu and select the desired transition, or set up a different column for transitions that are critical for the workflow to progress more smoothly.

Can you please let us know if you are using JIRA Server or Cloud? If you are using JIRA Cloud, are you using Next-gen template or the classic template for your projects?

it seems you are talking about two different problems here:

1 - You are not being able to change the issue's rank: Change the order of the issue in a column

2 - You are not being able to transition an issue - Move the issue between columns

Assuming that you are using a classic board in a JIRA Cloud instance, I suggest you check the details below:

- Navigate to the project of the issue you are trying to move > Project settings > Permissions

- Confirm that you have edit issues and schedule issues and transition issues permissions properly configured for your user

- On the same project settings page, navigate to workflows > Click to edit it

- Check if you have properly configured transitions to move issues to the statuses you want and check if you have any validators or conditions in the transitions that might be blocking it.
