Hi atlassian community,

we are a small software house which wants to start using the atlassian products.

We already decided to user the self hosted version and now we would like to start.

But we are not sure what the best way is to install it and to scale the server.

Maybe you have some kind of best practice which you can share with us?

We would like to use:

- Jira software

- confluence

- service desk

We are up to 15 internal user and around 50 external user (with restricted rights only to confluence

We will have around 50 active projects with up to 200 tickets and maybe around 300 active support tickets within service desk

Now the question is, what is the best scale for the server. Should we use one database or one for all products. Should we use one physical server whit three virtual instances?

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. :-)

BR

Hi Katrin,

welcome to the Atlassian Community!

This is a broad topic why I want to pass around some useful links. As for the question if you should use a physical or three virtual machines. From my experience there is nothing basically wrong with virtual machines.

If you should really do it depends on your specific infrastructure, as well as use cases - for example: are you expecting some load peaks when business begins to work or is load distributed evenly throughout the whole day - which is given when working across timezones, mostly.

As promised here some useful links:

Please feel free to come back to Atlassian Community in case of further questions. Many users are here around, ready for help with detailed questions.

Cheers,
Daniel
