Hello ,

i want to create 5 sub tasks of a story automatically when the story is created. Also, if the story has one component then the number of sub tasks created should be 5 and if there are 2 components selected in story then sub tasks should be 10(5 for each component).

Is this possible using automation for jira?

Regards

Priyanka

Hi Priyanka,

you should look out for the recording of yesterday's webinar on automation for an awesome overview and great practical examples. I'm only a beginner in automation (I will post a problem I actually have with some type of automation after I tried to answer your question), but your wish should be (easily) realizable.

Go to Jira application settings and then to automation rules.

There you create a new automation with

  • trigger: Issue created (rule is run when the selected issue is created)
  • new action: then: create X sub-tasks

And for the extra wishes you have to add further conditions/actions.

You can find great examples here.

On the playground you can also test your automation, which is quite helpful, since you only have a limited number of executions of automations per month.
