For context we have the following issue Hierarchy set up
Initiative > Milestone > Epic > Stories, Tasks, Bugs

Stories Parent is Epic
Epic Parent is Milestone
Milestone Parent is Initiative

Each issue type has its own workflow and statuses associated to it.

I want to write a query that returns me a list of all Epics whose status is DONE, but their Parent (i.e Milestone) status is still in Backlog

We use ScriptRunner and tried this but didnt work, im looking for ideas from people who have experienced something similar in their space , Thanks

(issueType = Milestone and status = Backlog) and issueFunction in parentsOf("(issueType = 'Epic' and status = DONE )")

Hi @Ravi Tata

I’m Charlotte, a support engineer at Appfire and I’m here to help you.

Unfortunately, using vanilla JQL, you’ll not be able to do it dynamically.

In the app where my team works, JQL Search Extensions for Jira, you can use this query to find all the Epics whose status is done, but their Parent status is backlog:

issue in childrenOfIssuesInQuery("type=Milestone AND status=Backlog") AND status=Done

Please contact our support if you have any other questions about this query.

We’ll be happy to help you!

Best regards,

Charlotte
