recommendation for reporting on original time vs actual

Kaneesha Gunanathan April 4, 2024

Hi I am looking to do reporting on my team using the original estimate field in Jira and the time they log in tempo. Just want to know whats the best way to report this. Right now the tasks are in various projects and I need to be able to report by project and user on time.

Is there an add on app in Jira that will assist with this. I did look into the planned vs actual report in Tempo but the problem is I dont see the ability to group using original estimate.

Looking to see if anyone had any recommendations.

need this urgently. Been researching all week

Hi @Kaneesha Gunanathan,

You can do original estimate vs time worked reports (regardless of whether you log work with Tempo or Jira log work) with a dashboard. Below I show you the steps to get to this report:

  1. Create filter with the issues you want to show.
  2. Create dashboard (omit if you already have a dashboard created and want to use it for this purpose).
  3. Add the Filter Results gadget and configure it as follows: Add the previously created filter and choose at least the Original Estimate and Time Spent fields. Additionally you can add the Project and Assignee fields to view it by project and assigned user.

With this you will get an original vs. actual estimate report at the issue level with the project information and the assigned user.

If this option doesn't quite meet your needs because you want the data to be aggregated and grouped by project and assigned user you will have to opt for a plugin, I recommend Dashboard Hub, which is very easy to use and allows you to do the same, with its JQL Custom Charts gadgets.

I hope this helps you. Let me know if it does. Best regards!
