Removing a status from an active workflow. Step by step instructions required.

Can someone provide step by step instructions? I've seen an answer to the question but it seems to be an overview.

You don’t have to move them prior to making the workflow changes but you certainly can and it might provide more piece of mind or unless the issues in the to-be-removed status are to move to different statuses. When you go to associate the new (old) workflow that removes the status, if any issues are in the ‘removed status’ you will be prompted to move them to a remaining status. Also, if you saved a copy of your original status you can simply associate the original filter directly.

Hi
Sorry but I'm still struggling with this. I work on a busy servicedesk and exact step by step instructions would help.
'Replace the workflow with the copy'. How exactly?
'Make a copy'. How exactly?
