Should I use different domains for jira software and service desk?

This is my first time with Jira, and I will host it on my own server. I am thinking about two approaches, they are:

- Jira Software (for my development team to manage projects)
- Jira Service Desk (for my clients to open tickets) - these tickets will be handled by the development team.

So, as I am not sure how the integration works (between JIRA software and service desk), I don't know how to configure my domains/subdomains.

I was thinking about:

For my team: team.mydomain.com (jira software)

for my clients: help.mydomain.com (service desk)

The question is, if I create as described above, I still can integrate both tools? Or, what would be the best option?

Thank you.

Rodrigo, it sounds like you're thinking about running in a Federated environment.  Take a look at this Atlassian document for more information.
