Story points change between sprints

Olafur Johannsson February 14, 2018

does it matter if I change the story points between sprints?
for example there are several tasks that all have 12 points. Then during sprint nr 1 it is reduced from 12 to 6.
The next sprint starts with story points of 6.
is this ok?

It's fine to do so.  But anytime you change an issues' estimation during an active sprint, your Burndown report will show this as a scope change.  It's not a critical problem to have these, but just something to be aware of.  It is one way that Jira Software can be used to estimate and track completed work.

FWIW...i have always avoided, except for rare instances, changing the OE of any task. The reason for this is that it allows you to better assess your estimation process. 'We thought it was 120 SP but it ended up being 200 SP'. Over many sprints you can better see how your estimation compares to reality and if you see, for example, that you are on average 10% under estimating then you can simply adjust your estimation upward. Of course in your case maybe your will get to adjust downward. :-)
