TimeSpent as hours

Simple question, how do I get worklog.TimeSpent as a number?

My automation needs to know what the user has entered in hours. Some users will enter 4h some will enter 0.5d. I just need to get the numeric value in hours so 4h and 0.5d are both 4 hours. No matter what I try, worklog.TimeSpent returns a string and when I try to convert this to numeric I get an error
