Updated Issue Types not updating display

Andrei Lopatenco August 20, 2018

I've configured everything I needed for my workflow and ensured the whole process is followed.

To put it short - I have a custom field called Steps to reproduce that is associated to the Bug issue type and another custom field called Acceptance criteria, associated to all the other issue types. I've also ensured these are mandatory for the appropriate issue type.

My issue now is that each time I switch from Bug to any other issue type when creating an issue - the custom fields are always not visible so I have to click the Configure fields button and tick the custom field I'm looking for.

This is quite frustrating and I can't figure what is the issue. I made sure that the field is present on the screen.

Can someone suggest what is my issue?

Hey there Andrei, we may not be able to figure out the problem without an in-depth look into the settings, but you might want to try using the Field Helper and check there why the field is not showing up in the screen that you configured.

Hi Joe,

As I mentioned, the field is actually showing up if I tick the checkbox in the "Configure fields". However I need to constantly tick that checkbox if I want to see the field. It's hiding each time I switch to a different issue type or when I close the Create screen and open it after 10-15 minutes.

Do you think there's anything I can do about that?

Heya Andrei, I understand that the field shows up if you tick the checkbox, but I was wondering if using the Field Helper would tell you why it is not showing up in the screen by default (as it should have been configured to show up).

Using it after the issue type switch might also help us understand why it is not showing up when using a different issue type.

Hi Joe,

I've tried that as well and the status just says:

The 'Steps to reproduce' field should be present on the form you are viewing

So basically it says that the field is there but I need to still tick the checkbox for it to show up on the form.

Hi Andrei, I see. I re-read our initial question to see if I might have missed or misunderstood anything, and I noticed that you mentioned that the 'steps to reproduce' field is associated with the Bug issue type only, is that correct?

In this case, when you switch the issue type from Bug to a different issue type, wouldn't it be expected for it to no longer appear?

Feel free to correct me if I have misunderstood anything though.

Hi Joe,

I must have detailed everything probably, apologies for not doing that in the first place.

So I have Acceptance criteria custom field for Task and Story issue types. Then I have Steps to reproduce custom field for Bug issue type. When I switch to Task/Story - I am willing to see my Acceptance criteria custom field and not see the Steps to reproduce custom field. When I switch from Task/Story to Bug issue type - I expect to see the Steps to reproduce custom field and not see Acceptance criteria custom field.

Hope this makes sense.
