Pre-requesites are simple - a working Jira Core 5.2.7. You'll then need access to the Java version installs you need to step through, the Jira versions to step through, and database upgrades.
You should read the supported platforms docs for the Jira systems you will be installing - the recommended path for you is 6.4, 7.0, then 7.10 (although you might want to go from 5.2 to 6.0 first as well - you will discover that during testing). I would strongly recommend reading the upgrade guides for those versions, and at the very least skim the release notes for versions in between them (6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 7.0, 7.1 etc)
