What permission does a Jira Cloud user need to access Project Automation?

Nate Cluett September 16, 2021

I would have thought that project admin would be sufficient access?  I have a user who can't edit existing automation rules in a project, but he's a project admin.  Thanks.

Project admins can if you configure to do so…

admin > system > automation (bottom of side bar) click on ellipses and select global configuration

Hi Nate,

I don't blanketly allow all Project Admins to mange Automations on their project. I want to make sure they know what they are doing first. So I created a group that I call Automation Rules Group under User Management.

As I feel the Project Admin has the skills needed, I put them in that group.

Then, as Jack describes, I setup the access to Automation Rules under the Global Configuration for just that group.

BUT, the user still needs to be a Project Administrator on that project.

To see all rules across the organization, the user needs to be a Jira Administrator.

Hi @John Funk ,

I have a doubt ,

I can see that project administrator can create automation rules if global admin allows it.

Do you know if it is possible to give that permissions to only few project administrators?

Not sure if it is possible to restrict that permission to single project admins

Hi Jose - Yes, I do it by creating a group and adding only certain users who are project administrators to that group. Then that group is added in the System Settings for who can create rules.
