What to do if the changes made in workflow does not reflect on issues (in scrum board)

I was trying to make a new workflow. I made changes to an inactive workflow (it was default Jira workflow) thinking that it will reflect only when I publish it or make it active.

But then I realized that is reflecting in all Jira projects :-(

The I quickly reversed the changes I made, by deleting statuses and transition. But at the end Jira was not allowing me rename an status saying that there is a status with same name.

And I am stuck. Please help me to make as it was earlier.
