When does an auto renwed plugin licence become available relative to the plugin being disabled?

We have a number of licenced plugins, the licences expire on the 16th December and are set to auto renew.

We still have to do the manual process of copying the licence codes from https://my.atlassian.com/product into our Jira settings.

Will the plugins stop working immediately on start of day on the 16th? I.e. so there will be a period of interruption in between the plugin being disabled due to expired licence, and us downloading and installing the new licence?

Or is there a grace period upon expiry to give us time to copy the new licence code?

Basically trying to find out if it's necessary for us to renew early so we can pre-install the new code, to avoid disruption

The apps will stop working on the day of expiry.  I've not actually investigated this to confirm it, and it's been a while since I had an app expire, so I don't know if it is still the case, but in my experience, apps stop working at mid-day for me (noon UTC) on the date of their expiry.

There's no grace period.  But. Licences don't have a start date, only an end date.  You can install a new licence at any time.  

If, for example, your current licence has an expiry of 1st Dec 2022, you could renew today (15th Nov) and get the new licence key.  Install it now, and the app will continue to work fine, and it will show an expiry date of 1st Dec 2023.

I know we can renew and apply the licence early. The issue is it can be hard to get the person who manages the licence purchases to act, so I wanted to know what to expect if we had to wait for auto renewal.

Does auto renewal also happen at noon UTC? Or does it happen earlier, so there is a small window after auto renew code availability but before plugin disable?

My experience is that the auto-renew happens a couple of weeks before the licence end date, after you've ignored the reminder emails that say "log in if you want to cancel", but I'm fuzzy on the exact timing because it's been years.  There's no window of renewal, the expiry date really means it, they expect you to apply new licences before the old one expires.
